3 Things You Can Do if Your Toilet Keeps Running

That constant running sound isn’t just annoying — it wastes water and money. Here’s how you can troubleshoot it yourself:

  1. Check the Flapper
Lift the toilet tank lid and look at the rubber flapper. If it’s warped or not sealing properly, water will keep flowing. Try adjusting it or replacing it (a cheap, easy fix).

  2. Adjust the Float
If the float is set too high, water will overflow into the overflow tube, causing continuous running. Adjust the float arm or screw until the water level sits about an inch below the top of the tube.

  3. Inspect the Fill Valve
Sometimes debris blocks the valve. Turn off the water, remove the fill valve cap, and rinse it. If it’s old or damaged, replacing it may solve the problem.
